Importance of Dental Implant Care

Dental implant care is crucial for the long-term success of dental implants. Just like natural teeth, dental implants require regular maintenance to prevent complications and ensure they last for many years. Neglecting dental implant care can lead to implant failure, which can be costly and time-consuming to repair. Proper implant maintenance not only preserves the functionality of the implant but also contributes to overall oral health. By investing time in dental implant care, you can avoid the discomfort and expense associated with implant failure and enjoy a healthy, confident smile for years to come.

Why is Dental Implant Care Important?

Dental implant care is important for several reasons:

  • Prevents implant failure: Regular maintenance helps prevent complications that can lead to implant failure. By keeping the implant and surrounding tissues clean, you reduce the risk of infection and other issues that could compromise the implant’s stability.
  • Maintains oral health: Dental implant care helps maintain good oral health, which is essential for overall health and well-being. Healthy gums and teeth contribute to a healthier body, reducing the risk of systemic diseases linked to poor oral hygiene.
  • Ensures proper fit and function: Regular maintenance ensures that the implant and abutment fit properly and function as intended. This helps you chew, speak, and smile with confidence, just as you would with natural teeth.
  • Prevents gum disease: Dental implant care helps prevent gum disease, which can lead to implant failure and other oral health issues. Keeping the gums around the implant healthy is crucial for the longevity of the implant.
  • Maintains implant health: Regular maintenance helps maintain the health of the implant and surrounding tissues. This includes monitoring the implant soft tissue interface and ensuring that the implant surface remains free of plaque and debris.

All on X and Other Permanent Implant Solution Repairs

There are many things that can break or fail with an All on X or other permanent implant solutions. Unlike a natural tooth, which has a root and crown, dental implants act similarly but are fundamentally different in structure and function. The parts attaching the implant to the teeth can break. Screws that hold the teeth in can break or come loose. The metal support can break. The teeth or acrylic can break or fall off.

Each problem has a specific solution to fix and our expert dentists and staff can help find the solution for you. Minor repairs like a missing tooth can be repaired quickly and easily in office and, in most cases, the same day. More advanced cracks or full breaks of the teeth may require the teeth to be sent out to the lab and can be repaired within 1-3 days.

Whatever the case may be we will find a solution and get you back to smiling and chewing as fast as possible.

All on X Cleaning Visit What to Expect to Prevent Implant Failure
  • Removal of the prosthesis if needed.
  • Inspection of the screws that attach the prosthesis to implants
  • Cleaning, debridement of the implants & tissues in contact with the prosthesis
  • Irrigation of tissues with anti-microbial medication
  • X-rays are taken of the implants to evaluate bone levels or any premature sign of bone loss
  • Evaluation of occlusion on the prosthesis
  • Inspection of the implant abutments and associated parts
  • The screws that attach the all-on-4 prosthesis to the implants are often recommended to be replaced as they tend to wear, loosen, or break over time.

Professional implant maintenance is crucial for ensuring the longevity and health of dental implants. Regular professional check-ups and cleanings help monitor the condition of implants and assess overall oral health.

Daily Care for Dental Implants

Daily care for dental implants is essential for maintaining their health and longevity. Here are some tips for daily care:

Brushing and Flossing

  • Brush your teeth at least twice daily using a soft-bristled toothbrush and a low-abrasive toothpaste. This helps remove plaque and food particles without damaging the implant surface.
  • Pay special attention to the implant and surrounding teeth, making sure to brush all surfaces. This ensures that no area is neglected and reduces the risk of plaque buildup.
  • Use dental floss or an interdental brush to clean between the implant and surrounding teeth. This helps remove debris that a toothbrush might miss.
  • Floss at least once a day, preferably before bed. This helps keep the spaces between your teeth and implants clean and free of plaque.

Rinsing and Additional Aids

  • Rinse your mouth with water or an antibacterial mouthwash after meals to help remove food particles and plaque. This is a simple yet effective way to maintain dental implant hygiene.
  • Use a waterpik or oral irrigator to help remove plaque and food particles from around the implant. These devices can reach areas that are difficult to clean with a toothbrush or floss.
  • Consider using a tongue scraper to remove bacteria and debris from the surface of your tongue. This can help reduce the overall bacterial load in your mouth.
  • Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials that can damage the implant surface. Stick to products that are designed for dental implant care to ensure the longevity of your implants.

By following these daily care tips, you can help maintain the health and longevity of your dental implants and ensure a healthy, functional smile. Regular and proper implant maintenance is key to preventing complications and enjoying the benefits of your dental implants for many years.

Cleaning and Maintenance for Your Snap-On Dentures and Dental Implant Hygiene

At home care is simple with your Snap in dentures. It is recommended after eating to rinse your mouth with any rinse you prefer for water. At least nightly it is recommended to un-snap your teeth, rinse your mouth and brush gently around your implants. You can sleep with your teeth in your mouth, or you also have the option to soak them in a solution each night.

Getting your new implant teeth cleaned once, twice a year or even quarterly is highly recommended. Your new teeth will be removed, and your hygienist will clean the teeth and clean the implant itself. Once finished, we'll put your teeth back in, adjust the tightness and fitting of the teeth and replace the tiny tabs that control the tightness of your teeth. Most dental insurance plans cover this type of cleaning. For self-pay patients the fee is $250 - $450.
